An actor’s company
Since 1991
Comp.Marius was founded by the two actors Waas Gramser and Kris Van Trier. They met each other at the Antwerp theater school, played together in tg Stan (1991-1993), founded ‘Maten’ together with Guy Cassiers (1994-1996), later De Onderneming (1997-2005) and finally Comp.Marius (since 2006).
DNA
As actors, translators, adaptors, as directors of their plays, the companies work continuously focuses on the autonomy of the actor, his relationship to the language, the audience and the space. Slowing down and deepening, self-organisation and attention to detail, as well as fun and humour are part of the company’s DNA.
Performance spaces
In the Covid-stricken summer of 2020, Comp. Marius transforms its workspace in the Middelheim Museum of Antwerp into a summer podium. Since 2021 this now yearly initiative is used to present new work, perform repertoire, invite bachelor and master students, and present collaborations with drama schools. With this initiative, the company wants to support the development of the actor’s craft.
Renewal
The company’s tradition is challenged by the vision of young actors. Recent graduates participate in new work or as substitutes in repertoire; graduation work at drama schools is supervised; the company’s annual summer stage is made available for Bachelor’s and Master’s projects; (young) creators are given carte blanche as artiste associé(e) to create a site-specific performance in the lap of the company.
